The SFFMC campout will once again be in the redwoods at the Boulder Creek Scout Reservation, near Boulder Creek (off Hwy. 9, south of Big Basin State Park), on Bear Creek Rd. Same place as last year's July 4 and Labor Day campouts.
Please register early; the ranger wants an approximate advance count of attendees. We'll send a confirmation letter and directions after you register.
NOTE - Change of Nights: Camp is Friday and Saturday nights this year - 2 nights only.
If you have friends who are interested in folk music, please invite them to come to this campout. It is not necessary to be a member of the SFFMC to attend the campout. We usually have plenty of room. There are tent spaces and eight tent cabins with cots, plus parking for RVs.
The day use fee is $5.00.
RV parking will be in the parking lot unless otherwise directed by the Ranger.
We would like to keep up the workshop tradition at summer campouts. Several people have given workshops recently. Our thanks!
Anyone can lead a workshop. All you need to do is to set up a bulletin board like the one at Camp Harmony-a large board or piece of cardboard with marked days and time slots. List your workshop with the subject, the leader's name, and the place, e.g. in the kitchen, around the pool, etc. Just set up the bulletin board at camp near registration, or some other central area.
The parking lot has been enlarged to hold about 95 vehicles, which should help with parking space. We must park in the parking lot and are not allowed to drive into campsites. Two or three cars at a time will be allowed through the gate, near sites, but not into them -- to unload and reload after camp. Do not drive off the paved road without permission. There are hand carts for carrying gear to campsites. Pack light! SFFMC volunteers will register campers and direct parking; please follow their directions. Back vehicles into spaces after unloading.
We need everyone over 12 years old to do an hour of camp duty: registration and parking, cleanup after the potluck, or cleanup of camp on the last day. We always need parking lot volunteers-especially on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning (the morning we leave). Final camp cleanup includes the kitchen, restroom and litter patrol. These jobs are essential, and we always need volunteers for them!
Please sign up for them at the registration desk as soon as you can after arriving.
Other volunteer jobs: early arrivals (check-in is 2:00 pm the first day) can help post signs, register and direct parking. Email if you‘ll be there early-or just come to the registration table at camp.
Help us fill the following jobs in advance: e-mail
by June 1: or
Registration supervisors: preferably people who have done registration before.
Please show up for your chore. If you can't, leave a note at the registration desk so we can cover the time.
Neighbors are directly across Bear Creek, so try to keep singing and talking quiet after 10:00 pm. Keep any circles that will go later than 10:00 p.m. as far from Bear Creek as possible.
SFFMC T-shirts will be on sale at the registration table. Price: $15.00 each, blue or maroon in various sizes.
Potluck at the outside dining area near the camp kitchen on Saturday night at 6:30 pm and a concert in the amphitheater afterwards. You may store potluck food in the kitchen's fridge or freezer until the dinner. Label your food, and do not leave anything in the refrigerator or freezer after camp. The deadline to retrieve food will be posted - it's usually at 11:00 am on the last day.
We can use the stoves, pots and pans, serving dishes and utensils, etc. in the kitchen. Bring your own plates and silverware. Sorry, there's no dish washing machine. So, please clean up any dishes that you use and take care of any food left over by about 7:30 pm. Throw away any leftovers, or leave them in the refrigerator labeled "Free-help yourself," or something similar.
We plan to have a lifeguard for Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Watch for a poster at the pool or registration table.
"Pack it in, pack it up." At camp's end, please designate a person to bag trash from your campsite's garbage can. Carry it to the ranger's trailer near the maintenance shed (across from the kitchen; look for signs). Use plastic bags hanging from the trash cans in your campsite. Check the kitchen for extra bags (in one of the drawers with the cleaning supplies) or check the men's restroom near the dining hall). Bottles and cans may be recycled in the appropriate bins; some are near the kitchen building.
The fold-in is at noon, Sunday, June 24, at the home of Abe & Joan Feinberg, The more, the merrier. Help with the folknik, enjoy a meal afterwards, and make music. Bring a potluck dish and instruments.
Mark your calendars - June 16-17 is the Free Folk Festival. Times are still noon-11:00 pm (ish) both days, but this year we have a brand-new venue: City College of San Francisco, 50 Phelan Ave, SF. We will be using their North Gym and surrounding buildings. See the CCSF website ( www.ccsf.edu/Info/Map/campus.shtml) or ours (www.sffolkfest.org) for maps and directions. We are now on more bus routes and a few blocks from the Balboa Park BART station. There is also plenty of on-campus parking.
Hundreds of your favorite folkies, dozens of free workshops, concerts and dances. Check out the website for late-breaking program updates: www.sffolkfest.org. As always, we need volunteers and as always, volunteering is fun. C'mon, sign up - you'll be there anyway. Volunteering INFO: 510 843 4147, or sffolkfest.org/2007/volunteer/index.html
Before the Memorial Day campout, (at Waterman Creek, the same place as last year), we will have a work party to help landowner and folk club member Mark Levy get areas ready.
Volunteers should arrive as close to noon as possible on Wed, May 23. After the work is finished, we'll potluck, and jam around the campfire. No charge for camping Wednesday or Thursday night, since everyone will have worked to help Mark get the place ready. For information, contact Ed Hilton at (510) 523-6533 or
Also contact Ed for directions to the camp if you have not registered and received the confirmation sheet and map.
