Folk Club Dues To Be Raised

The San Francisco Folk Music Club Board has been trying to balance the books for some time now. Our fiscal year ended on August 31, and we were over $12,000 in the red. If this continues for another four years, we will not have any money left in our treasury.

The current individual dues don’t even cover the cost of printing and mailing out the folknik six times a year to members. While some of our members have opted to read their folkniks online, we send out almost 600 copies at each mailing. The Board has agonized over this for several months.

Effective immediately, here is our new dues scale. We have taken into account the fact that some of our members may not be able to afford even a modest increase; therefore we have a “pay what you can” option (hoping that those who do so will renew at least at the current $10 rate). We hope to offset any losses in this area by suggesting that those members who feel so inclined can renew at the “folk hero” rate of their choice, thereby keeping the club solvent while allowing for those who need some help. It’s the folkie way!

All current club activities will continue as always. Keep in mind that we depend on volunteers to keep these activities going. If you currently volunteer, THANKS! If you haven’t yet volunteered, there are many opportunities and we encourage you to do so.

Ring in 2013 at Camp Harmony

We are gearing up for another fabulous five days at Camp New Harmony: Dec 27, 2012 to Jan 1, 2013! Mark your calendars, fill out your registration form and join your friends for SFFMC’s winter camper-led retreat. New Harmony is a do-it-yourself camp where everyone is welcome to participate in any activity. We play music, sing together, visit, get acquainted, dance, work together, attend and give workshops, do arts and crafts, and have a fun and relaxing time.

New this year: Extended bus hours and a bus helper chore: a person riding the bus to help folks and their stuff on and off. Hours will be 9:30 am-12:30 am, Friday-Sunday; 9:30 am-1:30 am, New Years Eve.

Late Registration: The registrars need everyone possible signed up by Nov 16, to assign housing. If you register after Nov 16, the cost will be significantly higher! Registration closes on December 1.

Housing is assigned based on when you register camp AND your need. We are working to make camp accessible and comfortable for all in the community. We hope the bus helper helps.

Registration confirmation letters are sent in early Dec. If you have already registered, but haven’t received your confirmation by Dec. 7, contact Amelia at or (before 9 pm). Instructions for canceling registration and our refund policy are on www.sffmc.org, under the “Registration Priority” policy.
