Tumbleweed Music FestivalSept 3-4
Held at Howard Amon Park, in Richland Washington. Festival is free, and open to the public both days. Artists this year include Tracy Spring, Adam Miller, and Michael Hawkeye Herman. Bumbershoot 2011Sept 3-5
Seattle's music and arts festival, held every year over the Labor Day Weekend, at the Seattle Center. Since 1971, Bumbershoot has drawn artists representing the best in music, film, comedy, spoken word, dance, theatre, performance, and visual arts. Details available at bumbershoot.org.

Sisters Folk FestivalSept 9-11
Held in Village Green Park and other venues in Sisters. Artists include Mary Gauthier, Dave Alvin, Steve Forbert, Red Molly, Rita Hosking & Cousin Jack, Anais Mitchell, Tony Furtado Band, and many others. Equinox FestivalSept 10-11
The California Traditional Music Society is still holding a festival, but they moved it from the Summer Solstice to the Autumnal Equinox. Held at the Rancho Cordillera del Norte, 9015 Wilbur Ave., Northridge. Saturday concerts in Lincoln Heights and Pasadena. Artists include Ginny Hawker and Tracy Schwartz, Dan Gellert, Daniel Rothwell, Old Sledge, Mick Moloney, the Mulcahy Family, Thomas Maupin, Ali Lexa, Barbara Gershman, and Bees Knees. American River Music FestivalSept 16-18
A celebration of music and moving water, this festival is held on the banks of the beautiful South Fork of the American River, in the gold country east of Sacramento, in Coloma. Artists include James McMurtry, Truth and Salvage Co., Band of Heathens, Brothers Comatose, Keith Greeninger and Dayan Kai. Activities include a whitewater river trip and a guided hike on the river. EarthdanceSept 23-25
Held at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo, this is a 3-day celebration for world peace and unity. Camping with hot showers, or stay at the festival hotel. Special activities include prayer for peace, activists circle, elders council, earth skills, earth mandala, yoga, healing village, theater, KIDZ festival, and Playa Art (artists from Burning Man). Harvest Festival of DulcimersSept 24-25
Sponsored by the Southern California Dulcimer Heritage, this festival is for hammered and mountain dulcimers. Guest artists this year include Bing Futch for the mountain dulcimer, and Jody Marshall for the hammered dulcimer. Concerts and workshops on Saturday, now held in Culver City (Culver The Palms, Winters Lake Merritt United Methodist Church, 4464 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City CA 90230).
